Admissions ProcessPinewoods Montessori School, North Carolina

Pinewoods Montessori School operates on an academic year calendar, from August to June. The school day starts at 8:15 AM and ends at 3:00 PM.

We offer before and after-school care for our Primary and Elementary programs. This is available from 7:30 AM and extends as late as 6:00 PM.

During the summer we offer Summer Camp, our camp style program that provides 6 fun-filled weeks of quality care and activities for children ages 18 months to rising 9th grade.

1. Schedule a Tour at School or in a Zoom Meeting - COMING SOON

We offer a guided school tour on most Wednesday and Friday mornings when school is in session. This is a fabulous way to see the children in their respective environments, have the benefit of a full overview of the Montessori approach and be able to have all your questions answered.

Alternatively, we also offer informational meetings via phone call or Zoom for out of state and out of the country applicants and to those parents and guardians who are unable to attend a tour in person.  This meeting provides information about the school combined with an overview of the Montessori approach. This meeting is personalized just for you, so you have an opportunity to have all your questions answered and we have an opportunity to find out more about your child and your family’s needs.

The Director of Admissions can be reached via phone at (919) 644-2090 ext 206 or by email at admissions@pinewoodsmontessori.com.

2. Submit an application for your child online.

The application includes a non-refundable $75 application fee. Applications are available year round. Applications are valid for two years from the date of submission. Please keep in mind that spaces do fill early.

Upon completion of the application your child is placed in a waiting pool for the next vacancy in the program you selected. Due to the multi-age groupings in all Montessori classrooms, when a vacancy opens up in the program we try to match the applicant to maintain the balance of age and gender in that classroom, so that applicant is not necessarily the next on the list. Lastly, as the Montessori YCC Program has classrooms where children “age – up” when they turn three years old in to our Primary classrooms, there are a limited number of vacancies that are created by this process during the school year (November to March), creating “rolling admissions” for toddlers in the YCC program. The greatest number of openings occur in the fall.

All Toddler options are 5 days/week, Monday-Friday.

YCC Full-Day Program (8:30 am-3 pm): ages 18 months to 3 years old

YCC Half-Day Program (8:30 am-12 pm): ages 18 months to 3 years old

All Primary options are 5 days/week, Monday-Friday.

Primary Full-Day Program (8:30 am-3 pm): ages 3-6

Primary Half-Day Program (8:30 am-12 pm): ages 3-4.

The half-day option is not available for children who are in the third year of the program, the conventional equivalent of Kindergarten year.

For Lower and Upper Elementary the levels are divided into three year cycles. Lower Elementary contains first, second and third years ( corresponding to 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade in conventional schools). Upper Elementary contains fourth, fifth and sixth years, (corresponding to 4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade in conventional schools).

The majority of contracts are offered during the open enrollment period from March to May. Priority application deadline is February 1st. Rolling admission begins after the deadline for the upcoming school year. Please contact the Admission Office to inquire about available spaces in your child’s program or grade level.

3. Child Visit

A child visit is required for all applicants to the Primary and Elementary programs. Child visits are scheduled during the months of March, April and May after your child’s application is submitted. These visits are for consideration for fall enrollment for the upcoming school year starting in August.

4. Teacher Recommendation

A recommendation from the applicant’s current teacher is required for Elementary applicants. Teacher recommendations are confidential and can be emailed to the Admissions Director: admissions@pinewoodsmontessori.com or mailed directly to the Admissions Office:

For processing during our preferred admission cycle, teachers have until the end of April to submit their evaluation. If your child does not currently attend school, please submit the form to someone who knows your child. For example: a dance or art teacher, church, mosque,  synagogue, or daycare center leader.

5. Request Records

Any applicant who has already attended school, must submit a Request for Records to the current school and all previous schools. Student records/transcripts can be emailed electronically directly from the child’s school(s) to the Admissions Office: admissions@pinewoodsmontessori. com or mailed directly to the school prior to scheduling the child’s virtual visit.

6. Decision

Admissions decisions are communicated to parents starting March 1 and continue on a rolling basis as the application process is completed. We undertake a very deliberate and thoughtful approach when deciding whether to offer an enrollment contract, factoring in all the information gleaned throughout this entire process.

Securing your child’s space is completed by submitting the online enrollment packet and paying an enrollment fee and deposit online within two weeks of notice of acceptance. The deposit is applied toward your child’s tuition.
